Located in a historical crossroad with key land routes between Europe and Asia, present day Bulgaria encompasses a total of 110,879 sq km.  Bordering Greece 472 km, Macedonia 162 km, Romania 605 km, Serbia 344 km and Turkey 223 km, with a 354 km coastline at the Black sea.  The cold winters and hot summers allow for a variety of outdoor activities with sandy beaches lining the black sea coast and extensive modern ski resorts in the mountains. As a mostly mountainous country with the highest peak in the Balkans (Musala 2,925 m), it makes for an excellent hiking destination with beautiful scenery and diverse wildlife. Also a hotspot for underground mineral water activity, the mineral springs prove to be a wanted retreat for many people with a variety of ailments, or just those looking to relax.
